Saturday morning was as gorgeous a day one can ask for in Minnesota. The sky was sunny and blue with not a cloud in sight and the temperatures were expected to be in the 70s. There was just a very slight, occasional breeze. I had plans to meeting a running buddy for a 9 mile run; my only long run since about January, before my half marathon this coming weekend.
Thankfully the weather was perfect because it would have been much too easy to cancel had I awoken to gloomy skies or rain. We met at 9:30 am and ran a 9 mile loop near an eating establishment with wonderful beers, so that we could have beverages and lunch immediately following our run.
My awesome running buddy stashed water and snacks along the route, so we had something to look forward to during the run, and we knew we’d stay hydrated and nourished. The run itself was slow and took us a little over two hours, but included several walk breaks and full out stops (for snacks, for a train, for traffic at intersections).
Following our run, we sat on the patio for lunch and it was absolutely perfect. My Sun Beam Wheat beer and pizza with Canadian bacon, pineapple and caramelized onions couldn’t have been better!
After my leisurely lunch, I met Nate and the kiddo at a park, where the city was offering a free basketball camp for kids. Kiddo played basketball for two hours, which included meeting Minnesota Lynx player Monica Wright, while Nate and I lay in the grass.
Next, we had a lovely dinner at Applebee’s before going home to prepare my car for our upcoming road trip. When Nate left to wash the car, Kiddo and I ran around the park for a half hour. The fact that I had enough energy to run around at the park after running 9 miles in the morning and not taking a nap surprised even me.
Over all the day was just about perfect. Needless to say, I slept wonderfully. On days like these, it’s hard to not just simply enjoy. I’m looking forward to many more days like these as summer approaches.
