PopRocks…but I don’t mean the candy

On Friday night, Nate and I met up with friends from my running group to celebrate a birthday and watch the band PopRock at Pickle Park in Fridley, MN.

PopRocks is a cover band that sings a huge variety of songs including, but definitely not limited to Rhianna, Lady Gaga, Prince, The Village People, Run DMC, Vanilla Ice, Big and Rich, Poison and Bon Jovi. The list goes on and on and on.

With the lead singer being replaced just a few days ago, I was a little worried the show might not be very good. Fortunately, here were only a few spots where the new lead singer forgot a few words. However, she has a great voice and interacts well with the crowd. Had I not known it was her first show with the band, I wouldn’t have been able to tell.

I would venture to say that PopRocks is the most entertaining local band I’ve ever seen. With costume changes frequently (every few songs) and their music montages, I couldn’t stop dancing and I couldn’t stop watching. They provided laughs, great music and a true show, which seems to be harder to find lately. Their music selections provided something for everyone, kept people on the dance floor and singing along as well as kept me from getting bored with any one particular song. Many times, they would blend songs together so one song didn’t last very long.

Nate and I are looking forward to seeing this band again. I can’t remember when I’ve danced as much as I did on Friday night. Although my legs paid the price on Saturday, it was so much fun!

I’m sure it’s obvious by now, but I highly recommend seeing PopRocks if you get the chance!
